Dr. Marc Lamont Hill to Keynote Open Buffalo’s Justice & Opportunity Series On Thursday, October 26 Open Buffalo will host Dr. Marc Lamont Hill as part of its annual Justice & Opportunity Series.

A nationally renowned author, thought leader, and activist, Dr. Hill will speak on creating various opportunities for at-risk youth and underserved communities to ensure the overall success of future generations. “We are so excited to have Dr. Hill come speak to our community as part of our Justice & Opportunity Series,” said Franchelle Hart-Parker, Executive Director of Open Buffalo. “With his expertise on the issues that directly affect our society and our youth, we’re looking forward to attendees walking away from this speaker series with a wealth of knowledge that will surely inspire them to empower themselves and others.” An expert in the field, Dr. Marc Lamont Hill has written extensively on the criminal justice system, racism and social oppression, culture, politics, and education.

He has also regularly contributed his viewpoints on CNN, Fox News, VH1, and BET News. Dr. Hill’s visit will help Buffalo to develop a lasting infrastructure for youth engagement and empowerment, as well as educate our community on the importance and impact of proven models for student organizing. In conjunction with Dr. Hill’s visit, Open Buffalo conducted a Youth Community Builder Contest for local high school students. Top entrants, whose essay proposals will be evaluated for micro-grants to carry out real community projects, will receive their honors live in front of the keynote audience. First place will receive $2,500.00; second place will receive $1,000.00; and third place will receive $500.00. The winners will also have the honor of introducing Dr. Marc Lamont Hill.
